Promoting a mobile phone App: Snapchat

Have you seen any photos of your friends with attached caption lately on Facebook or on the Internet? I bet you did. That’s Snapchat. Launched in 2011, Snapchat targets the youth from 18 to 25 years old, who spend at least three hours a day on social networks and always keep themselves updated to the latest trends. The application is aimed at high school and university students that like to keep in touch with their friends in the most fashionable way possible. “Snapchatters” can send messages, photos and videos that will only last for a brief of time before disappearing forever.

Mobile phone applications such as Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat are fast gaining popularity. By the time you know what Snapchat is, all of your friends might have already had it on their phone. I know a friend that first got to know Snapchat because all of her friends are having fun with it. Just like any other social media tool, it is getting more viral and addictive. We are all looking for something new to accompany and lighten up our day, and Snapchat might just be it.

There are 100 million daily active users on Snapchat and 8796 photos shared on Snapchat every second. What is it about Snapchat that attracts so many users compared to other social media tools? It’s because of the quick removal of content. “Snapchat is the ultimate social media tool” says a user. “We want to share our stories to anyone that gives us possible feedback, but without the necessity of it being stored.” We can send our friends silly pictures with stories behind them or random videos we film on the street. It is like a different version of iMessaging, only more fun.

Snapchat is enjoyable, relaxing and private. We can only add people we want to send messages to. It is a combination of Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, but with a twist. Getting bored of posting photos or videos that can be seen by parents or friends that you don’t know? Snapchat is what you need, and it’s free. You can get it on App Store or on Google Play. Sign up. Log in. Enjoy snapchatting with your friends.

Campaign “Saying No to Swearing in Public”

When was the last time you heard someone swearing in public? Was it on the street, or in your school? Most of us use swear words everyday but get annoyed when hearing some strangers cursing in the middle of the street. Launched in 2015, “Saying no to swearing in public” campaign targets the Vietnamese youth from 18 to 25 years old, who think swearing is acceptable and sometimes fashionable. This campaign aims to raise awareness about swearing is bad and to change the perception as well as the habit of the high school and university students.

Research shows that the average adolescent uses 80 to 90 swear words a day and most of them use it out of their habit. Some people say swearing is bad, others think it’s normal. Swearing is in fact unavoidable. “I just started using the F word out of nowhere” said a high school student. “Swearing helps me release stress and I think it’s normal because everyone does that.” So why should we stop swearing?

The “Saying No to Swearing in Public” campaign creates viral videos to show people how bad it is to use potty-mouth talk. Through the story lines, we can see that people who swear are usually recognized as low-educated, which leads to underestimation and bad judgment. Later on the younger generation will be affected and start to think that swearing is okay too. We should swear less, not more. There are invisible effects we cannot see.

“I don’t like to hear bad words” said a university student. “I don’t think it’s cool to swear anymore, it’s getting annoying.  Swear words have been used too many times that we forget how bad they are.” There is a fun video of the campaign where the classmates will have to put 2000 VND in a jar every time they are caught using bad words. The fastest way to change a behavior is to make it a trend. You should start placing a fine jar for swearing and you may end up with a party for your class. And for the result? Let it be a surprise.
